Coastal & Water Paintings

Water is one of the hardest subjects in painting to get right, and one of the most rewarding when it works — the way light breaks across a surface, the sense of movement in something that's actually still on canvas. That difficulty is exactly why a strong coastal or water painting stands out, and why it's remained such an enduring, popular subject for collectors drawn to coastal living and the calm a water scene brings to a room.

This collection is led by two Sydney-based painters with a strong connection to the city's coastline: Gino Campagnaro, whose glowing pool and harbour scenes include pieces set at Capri and along the Hawkesbury, and Geoff Coleman, known for his homestead and swimming-pool interiors. Local Sydney locations recur throughout the collection — Clovelly, Manly and the Hawkesbury River all appear as settings. (This collection covers any painting where water — ocean, beach, harbour, pool or river — is the central subject.)

Prices range from around $3,400 for a smaller study to $15,950 for the largest statement pieces, in sizes up to 300x100cm.

SOHO Galleries has been Sydney's home for original Australian art for over 35 years, with delivery and installation available nationwide.

Coastal & Water Paintings FAQ
What makes a good coastal or water painting? The way light plays across the water's surface is usually the key — reflections, movement and colour shifts are harder to capture convincingly than a static landscape, which is part of what makes strong water paintings stand out.
Are these paintings of real Sydney locations? Several are — Clovelly, Manly and the Hawkesbury River all feature in this collection, alongside international and imagined scenes.
Can I see the actual painting before buying? Yes — our Sydney gallery in Woollahra displays a rotating selection; contact us to arrange a viewing.
