VAYNMAN, Michael
Michael Vaynman Sculpture
Born in St Petersburg in 1974 into a family of artists, Michael Vaynman has spent his career doing something most sculptors don’t – producing all his own bronzes, overseeing each process from start to finish. That hands-on command of the material, from clay model through to cast and patina, gives his work a consistency and integrity that collectors notice. (Soho Galleries,Jose Art Gallery)
Working as a professional artist since 2001, Vaynman specialises in figurative and abstract bronze and stainless steel sculpture. His practice is built around a philosophy of aesthetics — exploring how we engage with objects and what we find beautiful within the experience of our lives. The result is sculpture that operates on two levels at once: formally precise, and quietly emotional. (Soho Galleries, Frances keevil)
His skill in bronze casting and patination is such that he has lent his expertise to many of Sydney’s other well-known sculptors. He has also taught at the Tom Bass Studio Sculpture School and Workshop Arts Centre, two of Sydney’s most respected institutions. His works are held in private collections across Australia and have featured in film. Jose Art GallerySoho Galleries

Artist Statement
“I create sculpture that explores notions of beauty, the Sublime and that indefinable, poetic nature of the human condition.
My interest is in the synthesis of geometries with organic forms such as the human figure. The structure ofmy work lays in the interplay of line and shape and how that relates to the entirety of the whole form. The main intention of my art is to bring quiet contemplation to the mind and involve the person in the aesthetic experience”.

About Michael Vaynman
Vaynman is one of a rare group of sculptors who controls every stage of production himself, from the initial clay through to the final patina. That process shapes the work. There is no distance between the artist’s intention and the finished object.
