Sydney Harbour Paintings

Yosi Messiah’s Sydney Harbour paintings are worked from close observation of the harbour’s changing colour and shape: sails crowding the water, harbourside light at sunset, the deep blues of a summer afternoon. Each is a signed original in mixed media, acrylic and oil pastel on canvas, with colour laid down in sections and brushwork built up in layers so the surface carries real depth and movement.

The series runs from 120cm square works for a hallway, study or bedroom up to Blue Shimmering Harbour, a 270 x 215cm canvas made for a foyer, boardroom or double-height wall. Alongside the harbour itself are coastal and summer pieces (palms, coral seas and open blue skies) painted in the same bright, layered style, so a Sydney Harbour original can anchor a room on its own or sit within a wider coastal scheme.

Messiah has painted full time since 1997, after studying oil painting with Charlie Sheard and life drawing at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney. He has been a finalist in the Mosman Art Prize, the Waverley Art Prize and the Paddington Art Prize, and his paintings hang in collections including Intercontinental Hotels, Hilton Hotels and St Vincent's Hospital Darlinghurst.
