portraiture

A good portrait holds a room in a way few other paintings do — there’s a presence to a face or figure on canvas that people respond to instinctively, even in a style far from photorealism. Portraiture

This collection is led by Yosi Messiah, an Israeli-Australian artist trained at Sydney's Julian Ashton Art School, known for bold, single-colour-washed figures and scenes — harbour and beach settings, animal and family portraits, and tribal-motif compositions, often on a large scale.

Works range from intimate 122x122cm canvases to monumental pieces over 2.4 metres, with prices from around $2,590 to $10,400.

SOHO Galleries has been Sydney's home for original Australian art for over 35 years, with delivery and installation available nationwide.

Portraiture FAQ
Are these portraits of specific people? Some are figurative studies of specific subjects, while others use the human form more expressively — check each work's description for the specific subject.
What size portrait works best for a living room or office? Pieces around 120x120cm to 150x100cm suit most residential walls; the larger 200cm+ works are better suited to high-ceilinged rooms, offices or foyers.
