About the artist
Jane Canfield is an Australian landscape painter working in oil, acrylic and gouache. Starting from small plein air studies and colour swatches, she builds larger studio paintings in what she calls “semi-abstracted tonalism” – paring back and simplifying the landscape while keeping it recognisable.
Winner of the inaugural Hill Painting Prize (2026) and the Waverley Woollahra 9x5 best coastal painting award (2024), and acquired into the Kedumba Drawing Award (2014), Canfield has held more than a dozen solo exhibitions and is held in collections in Australia and internationally.
