Concordial Evening - 51x39cm
$ 4,500
A great white bird, its long beak and swept wings echoing the lines of Concorde, glides across a star-filled evening sky beneath a crescent moon, above patterned fields and a still circular pool. A small, witty work that shows Willebrant's surreal imagination at its most poetic.

About the artist
James Willebrant is a significant and collectable Australian contemporary painter, a contemporary of Brett Whiteley, Tim Storrier, John Coburn, Martin Sharp and John Firth-Smith. A National Art School painting prize winner (1970 and 1972) with more than 60 solo exhibitions, he is held by the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Queensland Art Gallery, Parliament House and Artbank, and by Qantas, Telstra, Westpac and BHP.
"The Art Deco Bathing Pavilions, Surf Clubs and Ocean Baths have been a constant motif and preoccupation in my work. My sharply defined style aims to capture something about the Australian experience of landscape, and to explore how our intense antipodean light illuminates and dominates that whole experience." James Willebrant
