Henryk Lobaczewski

Australian artist Henryk Lobaczewski explores the effect of gesture and movement, using concrete and polymer to layer complex strokes on his sculptural paintings and wall sculptures. His work is intense, raw and gestural, normally in visceral colour, and is collected worldwide with placements in New York, London and more.

Paintings

Solid State is Henryk's series of heavily textured original paintings in acrylic and gel on canvas, available framed or unframed in dusty green, sage, off-white, Ode to Yves blue, hanza yellow, hot mess pink, bay leaf green and carbon black. Colours and dimensions can be made to commission.

Wall Sculpture

The Stroke and S-Stroke series release the mark from canvas, board and frame: each piece is a pure gesture, hand-shaped in concrete and then cast for strength and lightness, at scales that can pass three metres. The Ultra Matte series pushes the surface high off the wall in hand-painted relief, with colour that seems to shift across it, in editions of 8.

About Henryk Lobaczewski

Henryk Lobaczewski channels his creative energy into contemporary abstract works, drawing inspiration from vibrant colour, thick layers of paint and textured brushstrokes. He finds much of his inspiration in the tones and colours found within the pages of fashion magazines. The moment of creation itself is where the magic happens, with only the colours being predetermined. His collection focuses on exploring balance, the weight of texture, and the limitless possibilities of colour.

The Stroke Series was conceived from a desire to eliminate all structural boundaries: no canvas, no board, no frame. Each piece exists as a pure gesture, suspended in space without limits. Rooted in abstract expressionism, the focus is entirely on the movement and energy of each stroke. His work complements a photography practice that explores gesture and the body as observed.

Gallery viewings can be arranged directly, and local (Sydney) home trials are available on request.
