Original Art
Lounge & Dining Room Art Sydney
Art in a home has to work with your furniture, your light, and the way a room feels at different times of day. Not just look good in a photograph.
Lounge room art Sydney: original Australian paintings chosen against your colours, finishes and furniture, with in-home trials across Sydney.
What we look at
The room decides more than the artwork does.
We look at your colours, finishes and furniture before suggesting anything. Sending a photograph of the room is more useful than describing a style.
01
Scale
The most common mistake in a large room is going too small. As a rough guide a work above a sofa wants to span about two thirds of the furniture below it.
02
Light
North facing rooms take saturated colour well. South facing rooms flatten it, and often want more contrast or a lighter ground to hold up.
03
Palette
A work does not need to match your furniture. It needs to sit comfortably with your floor, joinery and the two or three colours already doing the work in the room.
Lounge room art Sydney
The lounge is usually where a house wants its most considered piece, because it is the room people sit in longest and look at from a fixed position. We are good at helping people find work that feels right at home rather than merely gallery appropriate. That often means something quieter than a first instinct suggests: a work you will still like on a wet Tuesday in five years, rather than one that wins the first week and wears out.
Art for the dining room
Dining rooms are viewed seated, often at night, and frequently under warmer artificial light than the lounge. That changes what works. Pieces with depth and texture read well by lamplight, and a slightly lower hanging height suits a room where everyone is sitting down. Where a dining space is open plan we look at how the work relates to the lounge piece, so the two do not compete across a single sightline.
Large format and statement works
We hold one of the better selections of large and oversized canvases in Sydney: works that fill a wall, anchor an open plan living space, or command a double height entry — a scale increasingly featured in Houzz project galleries for Sydney renovations. We can advise on scale relative to your architecture, and we will tell you if a work is too small for the wall before you commit rather than after.
See it in the room first
This is lounge room art Sydney the way it should work: seen in your own space before you commit. For Sydney clients, we can bring shortlisted works to your home. We will hang them in the actual room and give you time to live with them before you decide. Available across the Sydney metro area, including Mosman, Clontarf, Double Bay, Bondi, Manly and Cronulla. For clients further afield we produce digital visualisations of shortlisted works to scale on a photograph of your wall.
