Richard Baxter is a central Victorian artist with over three decades of practice spanning painting, photography, digital art and animation. These disciplines constantly interweave for him, and it shows, each medium informing and sharpening the others. Both photography and painting evolved from hobbies into professions, and that self-driven curiosity remains visible in everything he makes. Tutt'Art@Bendigo Advertiser

For Soho Galleries, it's his original paintings that take centre stage. Whatever Baxter is exploring digitally or through the lens, the canvas is where those ideas arrive fully formed, worked through with paint and time in a way no print or screen can replicate. His originals are objects with a presence, and that presence is the point.

He produces only a small number of original works at any one time. There is no production line, no series churned to meet demand. This makes each painting genuinely rare, and it's why we're always glad when one finds its way to Soho. Holding a Baxter original is not a common opportunity, and the collectors who understand that tend not to wait.
