"27 LANDSCAPES FROM THE LIFE OF BEN HALL"
by
CHRIS KENYON

09-06-2012 - 29-06-2012

CK CLIEFDEN
( CHRIS KENYON)

Exhibition Comments:

CHRIS KENYON

‘’27 LANDSCAPES FROM THE LIFE OF BEN HALL’’  JUNE 9 to 29.

Opening speaker Peter Bradley author of The Judeus Covenant “The Death of Ben Hall”

(direct descendant of  Ben Hall)

Bernard Doc Neeson,  (Musician) will perform at the event.

This exhibition of 27 landscape paintings portrays significant places in the life of the bushranger, Ben Hall. From his marriage to Bridget Walsh in Bathurst, in 1856 to his violent and lonely death at Billabong Creek near Forbes in 1865.

I was helped and guided in my research with some of the sites being difficult to locate. I was also fortunate in gaining access to private properties that had been attacked and robbed by the Hall gang. Some like Cliefden, still bear scars in the form of bullet holes.

In the process of producing the paintings I found them becoming increasingly darker and less structured  as Ben became more lost and desparate, with the world closing in on him.

Each site is portrayed as it is today, not as it was at the time; the intention was to allow the history of what happened in each particular place to filter through in  the emotion of each painting.
