WALANGARI  KARNTAWARRA  PAINTINGS

Walangari Karntawarra's incredible artistic career has taken him around the world giving him an opportunity to expand his vision and to exhibit his amazing paintings and share his wonderful culture. His new Exhibition titled "from the Outback to the Abstract", is another step in his amazing journey. As an Elder of his people, Walangari continues to strive towards his goals of equality, respect and  the right to express ones culture in whatever one does in order to communicate in an abstract form through painting drawing and sculpture.

Contemporary Landscape Paintings      Exhibiting 2014

I paint the surroundings I am familiar with or places I have visited. In that sense, my works are autobiographical.

My method is to begin with sketches and lots of photographs taken quickly. I then search out the photographs that interest me in some way and digitally manipulate these. I often print out four or five versions of the same image as a reference for the actual painting. The sketches give me the compositional information.

I try to capture the sense of it being a specific place, creating works in a painting style that is free, expressive and intuitive.

ALL THE BEST GROUP EXHIBITION
CENTRAL PARK
whitespacer "ALL THE BEST GROUP EXHIBITION"
by MARTINA ROOS
16-12-2016 - 17-02-2017

Exhibition Comments:

Whether inspired by the sheer beauty of nature or urban surrounds, Martina’s work is vibrant and expressive, as she strives to use colour, design, rhythm and texture as the means of expression.

Using abstract expressionism as an attitude, whereby the true visual representation of an object is not her solitary consideration, Martina is more importantly concerned with her subconscious and uninhibited emotional response to the stimuli. Martina seeks to capture a moment in time, a place or an ambience that holds significance to her and in turn evoke an emotional response from the viewer.

Working primarily in acrylic mixed media, Martina employs bold, rich colours and spontaneous brushstrokes to create an emotional tableaux in an abstract expressionist manner.

“Art washes away from the soul, the dust of everyday life” Pablo Picasso

Art expands our horizon of understanding by reflecting and inspiring our lives.

Whether inspired by the sheer beauty of nature or urban surrounds, Martina’s work is bold, rich, vibrant and expressive, as she strives to use colour, design, rhythm and texture as the means of expression by seeking out the detail presented in the naturally occurring shapes, patterns and colours of the subject, thereby reducing it to its essence.

Using abstract expressionism as an attitude, whereby the true visual representation of an object is not her solitary consideration, more importantly Martina is concerned with her subconscious and uninhibited emotional response to the stimuli, thereby emphasising an artist’s liberty to convey attitudes and emotions in all its ambiguity and contradiction through non-representational means. It is not about reading the narrative but rather reacting to it. Martina seeks to capture a moment in time, a place or ambience that holds significance to her and in turn evoking an emotional response from the viewer.

Martina works in a variety of media, and the canvas is a record of her spontaneous experience with the medium and colour.

Fire Pearl

Exhibition Comments:

John Scott Paintings at Soho Galleries and Chifley Foyers

My works usually unfold in series. Themes vary, incorporating multiple disciplines. I like to incorporate modern quantum theory within a whole

mélange of seemingly incongruent ideas, landscape, history, archetypes, mythology and current sociological events.

I try to push the visual moiré of these ideas to where I feel I've touched a kind of holographic representation of what reality maybe, a multi verse with many ideas interwoven within the same space-time continuum.

I often use Allegory to convey my subjective interpretation through perceived phenomena e.g. using a Banksias need for fire to rebirth itself into new growth.

The element of fire also needed to transmute or alchemise different states of consciousness to other, perhaps more refined, platforms of understanding.

try to see the causal tension underpinning each subject approached and no single answer seems to come forward in this search. I’m tending to move toward new symbolism as a narrative beyondthe normal façade of what we term“ reality”.
