EXHIBITING at SOHO GALLERIES & ART PARK EXHIBITIONS SYDNEY

John Gardner not only absorbs the culture in which he lives, but also investigates other cultures and successfully combines aspects of these disparate ideas.  He uses his images for resolution between cultures, ideas, and gender.  He combines iconic representations of the natural world with shapes and symbols from ancient and modernist concepts and philosophies.  While his aesthetic is modern, he lends qualities of the poetic and mythical to his geometric, monumental forms.  He draws on the art of ancient civilizations, totemic indigenous ritual art forms, and contemporary artforms.  The technical combination of bronze, stainless steel, glass, aluminium, granite and sandstone constantly refer the viewer to archetypal references and impart an aesthetic that has universal appeal.

The sculptor undertakes the creative process knowing all connections between idea and object must be made and remade throughout the work. Furthermore, John Gardner is aware that while the work comes into being at a certain point in linear time, perceptions of the work will subsequently evolve or be modified as circumstances change.

Gardner uses the language of form, space and surface in making silent works that speak loudly as comprehensive ideas.  Harmony, balance and rhythm.  Gardner's work explores these concerns through a highly organised visual language.  On another level, the viewer is encouraged to look outside the physical representation of the object into a metaphysical realm where other meanings are adduced.

ARTIST  MICHAEL VAYNMAN

SCULPTURE  -   CONTEMPORARY SCULPTURE

It is about the poetic, the indefinable aesthetic, and the notion of beauty as expressed through the 3D medium of sculpture.

Artist Statement

"I create sculpture that explores notions of beauty, the Sublime and that indefinable, poetic aesthetic of the human condition.
My interest is in the synthesis of geometries with organic forms such as the human figure. The structure of my work lays in the interplay of line and shape and how that relates to the entirety of the whole form. The main intention of my art is to bring quiet contemplation to the mind and involve the person in the aesthetic experience".

ROBIN HOLLIDAY  ARTIST SCULPTOR

 (November l932 - April 2014)

CONTEMPORARY BRONZE SCULPTURE   Soho Galleries & ArtPark Exhibitions

Robin's interest in sculpture dates back to the l960s and l970s when he
attended classes at an Art School in Hertford, Herts, UK, and also at the
Camden Art Centre, Finchley, London. Two of his instructors were the
established sculptors Mark Harvey and Jesse Watkins, and three others
had worked as assistants to Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and Eduardo
Paolozzi. He have worked with stone, wood, clay and plaster.Robin  also obtained
instruction in art metalwork, and have experimented with mixed media.

Robin's work was  mainly abstract, but sometimes bridged the gap between
representational forms and abstract ones. This is in part due to the
influence of organic shapes on his sculpture. A technique of  working
mainly in plaster, built up on wire armatures and a combination of
adding plaster and carving or wearing it down he  achievde the final form.
This was  then finished with a bronze patina, or caste in bronze. In Sydney
one of his abstract pieces, known as "Diad", had been caste in bronze
at Alan Crawford's foundry.

Robin had been influenced strongly by the established British school of
abstract sculpture, particularly Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth,
but also Lynn Chadwick and Reg Butler. His  interest in organic forms
can be related to the paintings, drawings and prints of Graham Sutherland.

As well as a part-time sculptor, Robin was  an author, and earned
his  living until retirement in l997 as a scientist, specialising in genetics
and cell biology.
