ALL THE BEST EXHIBITION
AL FLIGHT OVER SAN MIGUEL
whitespacer "ALL THE BEST EXHIBITION "
by ANNETTE LODGE
06-11-2010 - 01-02-2011

Exhibition Comments:

The CORRIDO is a Mexican song-story, a narrative that comes to life through rhythm, music, song and art.

The depth of the narrative in Mexico is bottomless. From the rebellion that forged independence to the enigmatic DAY OF THE DEAD, each new celebration eclipses the last creating new myths and heroes, alive with images.

In Guanajuato, the colour is red. There are more reds than I could ever have imagined. Golden terracotta to deep crimson colour the buildings, the cobblestones, the butterfly wings, the music, the angels and demons and the blood of history that are the spirit if this place.

This series of paintings is about the subtext of my recent experience living in San Miguel de Allende in the heart of the central highland state of Guanajuato.                        Annette Lodge 2009

by MARSHALL WILLIAMS
11-11-2010 - 15-11-2010

Exhibition Comments:

Marshall Williams lives and works in Melbourne as a full time practicing artist. He studied fine art at Monash University, Caulfield campus, has  taught fine art and photography, has work in numerous private and corporate collections, and has travelled extensively.

He lives and works over looking Port Phillip Bay and his work reflects his interests in the light, the water, and the sea and all those vessels that drift past his studio vista .

The waterways and light of Sydney Harbour, her boats, and reflections  being of fascination in a new series  of his work. He maintains a strong formal and contemporary edge to his imagery, yet it also shows his interests in classical realism and a dialogue with the past .

‘A glimpse of distant buildings, softly defined in the shadow and fall of ethereal light, glowing then disappearing into the haze…… the glow of the first night lights, building touched in the twilight tinge, dinghy’s basking in their summer glow.

The summer of reflected light bouncing off mirrored water, tankers quietly moving past, signaling departure, the softened forms drifting into the haze’.

            SOHO GALLERIES AT ART SYDNEY

In a natural progression of over three decades, my art has been transformed by time and experiences into the abstract vibrant and somewhat explosive expressions they are now.

Inspiration comes from diverse, sometimes obscure moments, feelings, thoughts, sights etc; which are then adapted to varied luminous densities and layers of paint which express those responses in a personal way.

As always it brings me great satisfaction when others choose to share in my perceptions and art, either by merely observing or collecting my work in ever expanding parts of Australia and Overseas.

by CONCHITA CARAMBANO
11-11-2010 - 14-11-2010

Exhibition Comments:

CONCHITA CARAMBANO

The source of Conchita Carambano's new work of large format paintings comes from an unrelenting passion and love of interaction with canvas.

The technique is highly refined after 26 years as a mid career artist working with both canvas and paper mediums. The progress of the work is not determined by time as her painting schedule may take up 16 hours on any day. The colours, texture and content of her paintings have proven over time to be most intuitive, which explains her success with commissioned works including the national Canberra Library.

Conchita's work has consolidated with her solid reputation as an established, collectible artist. The series depicts an emergence of less abstracted works with small elements of the figurative, which is unlike any of her previous painting. Her work creates a strongly individual interpretation of her natural surroundings and experiences.

Artwork visual and list of works on Application

Viewing her work is both absorbing and complex. The work is composed of layers, mixed medium detail, and subtleties of colour, light and  form.

by LARISSA SMAGARINSKY
11-11-2010 - 14-11-2010

Exhibition Comments:

'The idea for a new direction in my recent work is to find harmony in movement and proportion, elegance and simplicity in form. This is all combined in 'Harmony,' 'Eternal Youth,'  "Olympic Spirit' and 'Wild dancers'. One look at these sculptures should fill you with excitement and pleasure and a desire to touch them.

The human body forever feeds my imagination, inspiring me as an artist to create again and again.

But only the moment of discovery within our self has the meaning, and moves the artist to find a new language for these creations.  We treasure only the moment of discovery within our self.

The hidden parts of our innermost natures are analogous to the secrets of the cosmos. We are constantly trying to uncover them, displaying them in the light of our understanding.' Larissa is consistently intent on capturing moments, spirits and essences; so much so that her legacy will be clear to both present and future generations

Larissa Smagarinsky draws the inspiration for her themes from a vast arena. Her stimuli come also from the Bible, ancient history, modern events and from human emotions. However her main interest has been and still is the human body in repose or movement. Movement fascinates the artist and many of her most successful works embody movement in sport,  gymnastics and dance. Some sculptures are just called 'Movement' (1993) others are more closely  defined eg: 'Crazy ballet' (1988) and 'Wild Dance" (2002). Her other great interest is in the  portrayal of love from mythology and the present. Larissa Smagarinsky explores its many aspects from the highly erotic in 'Lover's Ecstasy' (1990) and 'Tired Lovers' (1990)  to the maternal filial love and finally to the sublimated divine love in "Madonna" (1992).

Larissa is consistently intent on capturing moments, spirits and essences; so much so that her legacy will be clear to both present and future generations. 'The hidden parts of our innermost natures are  analogous to the secrets of the cosmos. We are  constantly trying to uncover them, displaying them in the light of our understanding.'

by WALANGARI KARNTAWARRA
11-11-2010 - 14-11-2010

Exhibition Comments:

To my people, colour and spirituality are intertwined and colour gives meaning to the everyday aspects of our traditional lives, like gathering food and medicines and forecasting the weather.

When our Creators, the male and female Rainbow Serpents first emerged from the earth, they were transparent. They gave themselves colour to protect them from the sun.

We still use the healing colours of ochre in our ceremonies, red for men and yellow for women.

"Aboriginal Art encompasses a wealth of visual art, dance, performance and music.

These art forms are all part of our traditional culture and remain important ways of educating people about our beliefs." says talented exponent of all of the above, Walangari Karntawarra

Best known for his strikingly colourful "Western Desert" paintings, Walangari has a full card this month. His "Colours of the Rainbow Serpents"exhibition open at Sydney's Soho Galleries on 24 September.

He's also an invited speaker at the 11th Congress of the International Colour Association, a meeting of minds from the divergent fields of science, art and industry, drawn together by one of the most flavoursome enhancers of our daily lives, COLOUR.

After dancing and playing the didgeridoo at the opening season, Walangari will create a spectacular sand painting for the Congress delegates in the grounds of UNSW.

A traditional art form of the peoples of central Australia, sand paintings, by their gradual deterioration, embody the impermanence and cycles of the natural world.

The delegates will be encouraged to participate in creating the sand painting.

Later that week, his presentation "Colours of Aboriginal Australia" will explain the important intertwining of colour and spirituality to his people.

by ROSS WILSMORE
11-11-2010 - 14-11-2010

Exhibition Comments:

Even though the majority of his career was as a graphic artist, right from the start, Ross Wilsmore always dabbled in art. As a 16-year-old schoolboy he was providing the artwork for surfboards - in return for being able to create his own boards. This is a hobby that he still pursues, although the board art has changed to a more stylized, contemporary version.

Now, he is a sophisticated emerging artist whose work is instantly recognizable and is held in corporate and private collections. He takes simple locations such an outback air strip or a seaside dock and builds a powerful landscape image.

Ross qualified as a graphic artist at the Caulfield Institute of Technology and later went on to study Applied Art at the Prahran Institute. He then worked for more than 25 years as a graphic designer and consultant for advertising agencies. Three years ago, he cut himself free to work on his own art out of his studio in Cheltenham, Victoria.

When working on a piece, Ross begins with the sky and the mood it creates, building layer upon layer, while all the time working forward.  He is influenced by his graphics background and his appreciation of the urban landscape and its control of the people who move through it.

He paints with acrylics, accentuating the mood with colours, perspective, angles and the composition.  His images are thought provoking in their simplicity, the colours and mood often surreal. Through the juxtaposition of elements of art in the landscape, he points to the character in both and that, in turn, becomes a piece of art. Sometimes, he says, the result is art within art.

11-11-2010 - 14-11-2010

Exhibition Comments:

From his birthplace in Ballarat, Jenkins completed his schooling in 1976 at Ballarat College before travelling extensively on a surfing holiday throughout Western Australia. Coming out of his carpentry apprenticeship in 1981, Jenkins' work in construction of residential and commercial buildings led him to develop a keen interest in design

In 1986, Jenkins was involved in an inner urban construction of townhouses development of warehouses to apartments and offices

In 1994, Jenkins moved with his family to Bayside Melbourne, purchasing an old shop in Black Rock and pioneering the innovative 'shop top' development s within the area.

During this phase, Jenkins explored the notion on making transportable artforms as opposed to the relocation.

Married to an artistic wife, Jenkins was supported in the pursuit of his artistic expression, and along with traditional building contracts, also worked on many professional photographic shoots, TV and film set productions constructions.

From unit, home, commercial and shop top projects, to gallery café designs, Jenkins' artistic ambitions have always been at the forefront of his ambition.

The Beaumaris Art Group has given expression to Jenkins' eye for design and detail the expression. His art continues to be recognised as being substantially unique, with many pieces taking pride of place in private collections.

Jenkins' see the unique beauty and artistic potential of recycled timbers, signs and discarded building materials. The patina, the hue, the possibilities, the history of what lays beneath. His builder's skill ensures every piece is superbly crafted and finished, ready to capture the light and become a true conversation piece.

Jenkins' vision is "that the people who see my work enjoy my personal interpretations and I hope to encourage artists in all mediums to continue the path to create."
