During a spree robbing travellers on the Collector Road, the gang decided to hold up Rob Kimberley’s Collector Inn on 26th of January 1865. While Hall and Gilbert bailed up the hotel, Dunn kept guard outside, hidden behind a fence. The sole policeman, Constable Nelson, approached with his 18 year old son and Dunn shot and killed him instantly. His son, one of 9 children, escaped injury. Constable Nelson lies buried alongside the hotel owner in the local cemetery.
