HU MING whitespacer HU MING
In 1970 at the age of 15 Hu MING  joined the Chinese Army. She was eventually promoted to the rank of Major at the end of 20 years continuous service. Hu Ming began her training as a nurse and developed her skills sufficiently to become a scenic artist, costume designer and production designer in the military film studio. She graduated from The Fine Arts College of Tianjin in 1983 where she majored in Traditional Chinese painting. As a part of her training Hu Ming studied extensively at the ultimate shrine to Buddhism in Dun Huang. Here she traced a large number of cave paintings, which helped her perfect her skills in traditional figure painting. One of Hu Ming's works was added to the collection of the Tianjin Museum.

Hu Ming migrated to New Zealand in 1990 where she worked in her own gallery for the next 7 years. During that period Hu Ming also held exhibitions in Japan and Singapore and her paintings were sold to buyers in The United States, Canada, Asia and Europe. Hu Ming is an adventurer in her field being diverse in combining both modern and classical styles. Her paintings have a conscious sense of post modernism and elements of sub‑culturalism. They are a blend of the strange, the humorous and the mysterious.

Hu Ming's art works express clearly that she worships the female body. Women under her brush reflect a harmonious blend of the Yin and Yang. The women in Hu Ming's paintings possess the physical strength of woman who labour combined with a feminine beauty that depicts pure pleasure. It is clear that Hu Ming's oil paintings are not a planned process; they are born of her dreams and every piece of her work represents an accumulation of her diverse life experiences.
