I create my work using acrylic paint and a combination of brush and freestyle airbrush. My methods for achieving the distinctive look and feel often involve the use of simple household items such as sponges and atomisers. I rely on visual impact and blend colour, bold text and graffiti together with simplified iconic images.
These simple images are a typical and sometimes candid view of the unique Australian coastal culture. The beach, cars, caravans and bikinis form the basis of a majority of my work and are often just visual clippings and observations from holidays or life on the coast.
There is nothing dark about my work, the content and themes must be fun as well as colourful. Through my work I hope to spark the viewers own imagination and remind them of a time or moment.
Over the past 12 months I set out to push the boundary a little as far as content while keeping the same simple form.
This exhibition is a ‘visual milkshake’ with a blend of colour, bold text and a subtle touch of urban graffiti contained within the same simplified iconic subjects that have become artbydorf.
