PAINTINGS
I have been painting in Tasmania for
the past twenty years.
This year I have moved my home,
studio and art practice to Meadowbank , in the Derwent Valley , an hours drive
north-west of Hobart . I have found the surrounding country side, vast
skies and isolation to be very influential in my recent paintings.
The paintings in this exhibition
often suggest the viewer being distant from human inhabitation , a distant city
or lights , this is very much the feeling that comes from my new environment.
The fundamental basis of my image making is an exploration of the emotions of
the self visually set in a universal and poetic landscape.
My images arrive through amalgamations of places ; They are no where in
particular rather places filtered from experience and painted from memory in my
studio .
I strive to develop an arcadian imagery based on the contemporary Tasmanian
landscape. Paintings that suggest the emotional impact of a place rather than a
simple depiction .
The ordered and cultivated land in
my daily view me provides a stage upon which to set the narratives of my
compositions.
