CONTEMPORARY GLASS & BRONZE SCULPTURE  Level One Open Galleries

Lorry Wedding-Marchioro uses imagery derived from intangible elements sourced from poetry, music and the natural world. Often a word or phrase will inspire a work, the meaning resonating with her artistic sensibilities. Myth, legend and science form a foundation in which scenes both real and imagined are accessed from memory to provide a narrative in which to express herself.

She explores form in two and three dimension, using the plastic qualities of the material to their best advantage. The work explores ideas of looking at the deeper realities of reality, causing us to notice our world in more depth, the works hint at a spiritual dimension through intense immersion in the material.

Wedding-Marchioro recently achieved her Master's degree in Visual Art at the University of South Australia and is currently completing a research degree at Monash University. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Australia, U.S.A. and Asia.

 Creation of the work

The Bronze and glass sculptures combine materials to create a deeper understanding of the story being presented. The works are a result of the complex and time consuming process of lost wax casting in both Bronze and Glass.

This entails the original sculpture being initially created in clay, once the shape has achieved the desired form a plaster mold is taken. From this wax is poured into the mold to give a reproduction of the initial design,  which is sent to the  bronze casters. Usually the bronze is sent back in several pieces which are needed to be welded together and aged.

The glass is also created using a similar process, the three dimensional form is created using clay, a plaster cast is made of the original shape and wax is poured to create a negative copy. This is then cast with a special mix of plaster which is fired in the kiln up to a temperature of over 8oo degrees with glass which has been painted on several layers to create a colourful and evocative design.

The corresponding works from two materials are fitted together to create the finished sculpture which tells a story on multi- dimensional levels.
